Mokwena says the injury of the Sundowns striker, Nasir is career-threatening and he speaks about an update.

The Masandawana boss, Mokwena elaborates further on the future of striker Nasir at Sundowns as he has been taken off the club’s roster.

Nasir, an Ethiopian international, made his debut for Sundowns in August 2022 but is sidelined as he was seriously injured on two occasions.

The injury update from Mokwena on Nasir comes after the striker’s links with a move away from Chloorkop and Sundowns.

Per media reports, Nasir was back on the operating table in December of that same year after a horror challenge from Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane.

MOKWENA ON NASIR’S CAREER-THREATENING INJURY, SEASON OVER?

According to Mokwena’s sentiment, it looks like Nasir will not feature for Sundowns this season and Mokwena explains.

”Nasir has got a very difficult injury and a very complicated one,” says Sundowns boss Mokwena on Nasir’s injury.

“That he sustained in the Pirates game with Mpontshane.

“He is yet to recover, and it’s a bit unfortunate.

”The Nasir one, will wait for the club to make an announcement, that one is off my table.

“I think a lot of you have direct contact with the sources at the club to get a better answer.”

The South African understands that Sundowns need a foreign spot to accommodate the latest signing Matias Esquivel, the decision was to de-register Nasir.

The 37-year-old Sundowns boss and mentor, Mokwena adds Nasir has a tough road ahead of him if he is to make a full recovery.

 ”When you use the term career-threatening, that situation with Nasir is indeed career-threatening,” Mokwena adds on Nasir’s future at Sundowns.

“Nasir needs all the support, luckily he’s with a club that looks after its players.

“Hopefully we will see him back at the club sooner than later.”

Meanwhile, football publications indicate that Mokwena is happy with defender Divine Lunga’s registration as a local player.
