Watch as a truck smashes into car at a busy intersection after the large vehicle’s brakes failed. The dramatic footage was captured on CCTV and shows the driver use unbelievable skill to maneuver the truck through a busy intersection without the use of the vehicle’s brakes.

The video was uploaded onto social media platform X by SA Trucker. Per the publication: “Initially, the truck is seen making a perilous cut across a busy highway, colliding with a sedan.” It’s unclear where the incident took place.

“Miraculously, it narrowly misses other vehicles, weaving dangerously out of control.”

ROAD SAFETY AND MAINTAINING A GOOD FOLLOWING DISTANCE IS VITAL

The road user who filmed the SA truck driver is also at fault in this scenario as they should not be using their mobile phone while driving. Road safety advocacy group Arrive Alive says all road users should learn defensive driving techniques.

Arrive Alive mentions these three important rules:

  • Reducing the risk of collision by anticipating dangerous situations, adverse conditions or the mistakes of others.
  • Implementing driving techniques that enable drivers to address identified hazards in a predictable manner.
  • Driving with an increased awareness of everything happening around you while driving.
  • Driving characterised by prudence, diligence and reasonable cautiousness with the goal of making the road a safe place not only for a defensive driver but also for other road users.

We have to drive within our ability. Elderly drivers are good at using their experience to compensate for lack of physical strength, reduced eyesight, hearing etc. They drive defensively by adjusting their time of travel and where they drive, Arrive Alive says.
