The South African Police Service Special Task Force has returned to the Middle East to participate in the UAE Swat Challenge in Dubai.

They will be taking on 87 elite Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams participating from 48 countries.

The SWAT teams will be competing in the Tactical Competition, Obstacle Course, Officer Rescue, Tower Challenge, and the Assault Course

According to the SAPS, “The competition aims to encourage bench-marking and test the world’s elite units on their global tactical and weaponry ability and competence to respond to high-risk incidents.”

The SAPS Special Task Force Unit is a unique branch of the police, whose mandate includes responding and providing operational support only to High-risk incidents, which include terrorism, hostage-related incidents and rescue missions, among other high-risk matters.

SAPS Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, says the tasks force is amongst the best in the world.

“Our Task Force is among the top 10 most elite units in the world. Last year they obtained 9th position. They are the number 1 SWAT team in Africa!”,says Mathe.
