Nondumiso Tembe (born 15 December 1987) is a prominent 34-year-old South African singer and dancer. She is a multifaceted actress known for appearing in much local television series.

She is also a singer, songwriter, and writer. Nondumiso is best known for appearing in many Hollywood serials like; NCIS: Los Angeles, True Blood, Castle, and Six.

She has performed in many notable events like the Nelson Mandela 90th birthday celebration in his home in Qunu. She was cast in the 2015 NCIS, Avengers II – Age of Ultron, and NCIS: LA. 

Nondumiso Tembe also played ghost Mavis, a recurring role, in the horror titled True Blood.

Early Life

Nondumiso Tembe was born on 15 December 1987 in the coastal city Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She hails from a family of singers.

Both of her parents are opera singers and may have influenced her decision to join the show business.

Her father Mr. Bongani Tembe and her mother Mrs. Linda Bukhosini raised her and her siblings. During the apartheid, she had to leave the country and came back when the apartheid ended.

Education

Nondumiso Tembe studied musical theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

She also attended the New York New School University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in Theatre. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science.

Personal Life

She was born into the family of Linda Bukhosini, mother, and Bongani Tembe, father. Her parents returned to the country following the end of the apartheid.

Linda and Bongani attended Juilliard School and studied music at the institution. 

Sadly, she lost her younger cousin Anele “Nelli” Tembe in April 2021. According to reports, she fell from the 1oth floor of a Cape Town hotel and died.

Neli was engaged to Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known professionally as AKA. Nondumiso left a heartwarming message on her social media account about the big loss.

Career

Acting has been part of Nondumiso since she was 6 years old. As a child, she began acting in opera and theater in the United States. She played a role in the stage play Annie, which became very popular and became the highlight of her career. 

Performing in the play made her the first black actress to lead a multi-racial cast major theatrical production after the Apartheid. Nondumiso played the role of Maria in Leopard Skin. She appeared in another play Mata-Mata as Thobile.

She performed at the Los Angeles theatre as Josephine Baker in the play Romeo and Juliet. Her first role on television was a recurring role as a “ghost Mavis” in the popular series True Blood in 2011.

In 2013, she got the role of Phumelele Miya in the popular soap opera Generations. Nondumiso Tembe played a supportive role in the 2015 blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron.

She bagged the Best Lead Actress at the Musical Mercury Theatre Awards. Nondumiso Tembe was the recipient of the award for her now in the Rogers and Hammerstein’s musical Cinderella.

She was also the recipient of the Best Actress in the Supporting Role category at the Naledi Theatre Awards. She is also a singer, she made her debut album titled IZWI LAMI; My Voice in January 2011.
