Malia Obama, the daughter of Former American president, Barack Obama has made her red-carpet debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. This comes after the premiere of her new short film called, The Heart.

MALIA OBAMA PREMIERE’S NEW SHORT FILM
The 25-year-old film maker was spotted in a grey overcoat, a pinstriped button-down, black jeans and thin grey scarf wrapped around her neck. Malia completed her look with a pair of brown boots.
Malia screened and submitted her new film under the name Malia Ann. It is reported that it will also be submitted in the US short fiction films category at the film festival. According to Page Six, The Heart tells the story of a lonely man who is grieving the loss of his mother, who leaves him an odd request when she dies.
In a “Meet the Artist” video, Malia shares how the film is embedded around themes of loss, forgiveness and regret.
“The film is about lost objects and lonely people and forgiveness and regret”, Malia Obama shares.
She continues: “but I also think it works hard to uncover where tenderness and closeness can exist in those things”.
The young artist hopes that her short film will makes audiences “feel a bit less lonely, or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are”.

AN INTEREST IN THE ARTS
This event was Malia’s first-ever red carpet ever, however it wasn’t her first time attending the Sundance Film Festival. Obama attended the festival years ago for the screening of the edgy movie Beach Rats.
As per media outlet, Page Six, it has been reported that Malia has always taken an interest in the film industry. The former first daughter got an internship at the Weinstein Company in 2017 in New York City. She also worked on former HBO show Girls and the CBS show Extant.
Malia Obama was also hired in 2023 as the staff writer for Prime Video’s hit series Swarm.
