Orlando Pirates appear to have handed legendary goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane a new role within the club.

Mpontshane is currently part of Jose Riveiro’s backroom staff, and this comes just weeks after Pirates decided to let him go.

He was spotted taking his now former goalkeeping teammates through their paces alongside Bucs goalkeeper Tyron Damons on Thursday morning.

However, as things stand, there is no official word from either Pirates or Mpontshane as to whether or not he’s joining Riveiro’s technical team.

It is also unclear if Mpontshane has officially retired from playing professional football.

Nonetheless, SABC Sport senior journalist Velile Mnyandu reports on X that Mpontshane is now the new assistant goalkeeper coach at Pirates.
